Yeastar P-Series IP PBX Software Edition
Yeastar has released the P-Series IP PBX in a Software Edition. This allows a complete phone system to be spun up either on a dedicated server or as a virtual machine under VMWare or Hyper-V. Starting at 100 extensions and 25 channels, P-Series Software Edition can be expanded in units of 100 extensions and 25 channels to the same capacity as a fully expanded P570 hardware appliance – up to 500 extensions and 125 channels. Future versions will allow scaling to thousands of extensions on the appropriate hardware.
An annual subscription to either the Enterprise or Ultimate plan is required with the difference being limited to the addition of video features in the Ultimate plan.
Below is a summary of the features provided by the Enterprise and Ultimate subscriptions:
Hardware requirements for Software Edition are quite modest. For a dedicated server an E3 1220 processor will be sufficient with 8GB of memory and 1TB of disk. In a virtual environment 4-6 cores with 4-6GB or memory and 50 to 100GB of disk space is sufficient.
One of the benefits of Software Edition is that no additional hardware is required. This gets around chip shortages that may affect appliance production in the future – and no shipping of appliances is required with shipping still somewhat uncertain. Simply contact your preferred partner to arrange a license and annual plan. Your preferred partner can supply appropriate hardware or work with your IT people to install and configure it for you along with phones and any other peripherals such as tone ringers and headsets.
