End-of-Sale: Cisco Meraki MR55
Cisco Meraki has announced the end-of-sale of the MR55 high capacity indoor Access Point effective on the 25th of August 2020.
The End-of-Support date is the 25th of August 2027. This means that existing MR55’s can continue to be licensed and will be replaced if they fail up until that date. They may be replaced with refurbished units or with a current replacement and a license swap done with the assistance of Cisco Support.
The MR55 has been replaced by the MR56.
The MR55 was a WiFi 6 capable quad radio 802.11ax Access Point capable of 5.9Gbps throughput.
The replacement MR74 is a quad radio 802.11ax Access Point capable of up to 5.9Gbps. There are the standard 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios along with a Bluetooth Low Energy radio for iBeacons and a WIDS/WIPS radio for intrusion detection. Although the specifications of the new model appear identical to the old one the MR56 has come important improvements – OFDMA and MU-MIMO for the uplink as well as the downlink; WPA3 security capabilities and 1024QAM encoding. It is fully WiFi 6 certified whereas the MR55 was not due to hardware limitations.
