Unfortunately, we are coming to that time again… As we approach the end of 2024 we need to remind you all of Carrier Embargo 2024 that occurs over the Christmas and New Year break.
This occurs every year with the major carriers and during this period no new voice or data services are provisioned. Some of the smaller SIP trunk providers may still connect new services but it won’t be possible to Port numbers across to them until after the embargo ends.
This year, Carrier Embargo 2024 runs from 6am Wednesday the 18th of December 2024 to 6am Monday the 6th of January 2025 with restricted works taking place a week either side of these dates. Orders can still be placed and will progress up to a certain point but their completion will be delayed until after the 6th of January. Depending on the complexity of the order it may still take many weeks to complete.
If you are planning to relocate your office as many choose to do in this quiet period then you need to get relocation orders placed very soon to avoid disappointment and disruption to your business since the cutoff date for many high-capacity services is as soon as the 2nd of October. As a temporary measure you can run your SIP trunk over a 4G/5G connection but this may not be sufficient for general Internet browsing as well.
Faults will still be attended to but due to reduced staffing levels, services may take longer to restore.
Bear in mind, this only applies to the major Carriers – smaller providers and ICS Technologies will still be available for installations, faults or moves, adds and changes.
