On the 19th of June, Avaya released the latest update to the IP Office phone system – Release 10.1. This has a number of new features such as compatibility with other hypervisors, the availability of an Amazon Machine Image to run in AWS, a new Media Manager that replaces Contact Recorder, centralised TAPI for multi-site deployments, System Status over web services, ringtone on transfer and MADN’s to allow different outgoing Caller ID’s to be shown by pressing a line key (previously possible on SIP trunks using a short code).
There is a new low-end SIP phone, the J129 that replaces the E129 and the Scopia XT4300 and XT7100 video conference units now use an Avaya IP endpoint rather than a 3rd party SIP endpoint.
The big new feature is Integrated Contact Recorder. This is designed to provide basic reporting for 5 to 25 agents. For this initial release it reports on incoming calls only – not outgoing or internal – and the 8 available reports are fixed – not customisable. IP Office Preferred Edition and Power User profiles are required for each user but the additional functionality is included free.
Release 10.1 is deemed a minor upgrade so it can be applied to an existing R10 system without purchasing an upgrade license. Service Packs will continue to be released for R9.1 systems and this is now the oldest release that IP Office Support Services (IPOSS) can be applied to. Purchasing IPOSS now will allow you to get a free upgrade to the upcoming R11 scheduled for early 2018. Upgrades from older releases are still performed in the same manner using the migration tool in Manager.
As R10.1 is a no-cost upgrade it would be well worth arranging your Avaya partner to install it for you to remain up to date and provide an excellent base for implementing the new features to enhance the service you provide to your callers.
