Ubiquiti Networks EdgeRouter Lite

14 Sep 2012 7:00 AM - Huge performance at a tiny price

Set for release in the 4th quarter of this year is the Ubiquiti Networks EdgeRouter Lite.

The EdgeRouter Lite is a 3 port VPN router capable of forwarding 1 million 64-byte packets and has a routing performance of 672Mbps with extremely low latency. This performance is with or without the firewall turned on.

In testing by Tolly Group earlier this month the EdgeRouter Lite was compared with a Mikrotik RB1100AHx2, a Cisco 3925 and a Juniper J6350 and found the following results.

EdgeRouter Lite provides 29x the throughput in packets per second per dollar on average of the RB1100.

EdgeRouter Lite provides 145x the throughput in packets per second per dollar on average of the Cisco.

EdgeRouter Lite provides 205x the throughput in packets per second per dollar on average of the Juniper.

The EdgeRouter Lite supports many important features such as VLANs, firewall, NAT, OSPF, RIP, BGP, IPv4/v6 static/DHCP addressing, IPsec, L2TP, PPPoE, VRRP, and more. While the Cisco 3925 and the Juniper J6350 also provide expansion slots for legacy WAN interfaces such as T1/E1 and HDLC and support additional routing functions such as IS-IS and PIM-SIM, for customers not requiring such less commonly used features, the Ubiquiti Networks EdgeRouter Lite provides high-performance, low- latency IP routing at an extremely low price.
